App Development.

WOW this is something that I never figured that I'd have to do. So in order to get what I want, it looks like i'm going to have to make my own simple app using Eclipse, with the vuforea plug in. This is all need code to me, but ive found a 3 and half hour tutorial which i can do tonight. I won't spend weeks trying to figure this one out, if I can't do it, then I'll have to move on, what with dead lines and all..

Vuforia

I found this GREAT bit of development kit called Vuforia, but to develop for iOS, I have to pay $99 a year to be able to do so. Other apps that iv'e found that are free and allow me to AR video into a tag only allow pre-made video's and pictures. I keep getting thwarted at every turn.

AR Jackpot!

OK! so i've been playing with this app that lets you create your own AR, and it supports video! And its free! So thats jolly good.. I'm going to render out a test of my current animation, and give it a go!

Moar research plz

Ive been looking all night for a way to get my head around this AR thing, but I keep reaching dead ends. I've got it to work with images and 3D models but no video, until I stumbled across this story from the BBC

Augmented Reality

Iv'e now started to research into AR to get my cereal box come to life in front of the children's eyes! I'm sure this is going to be a lot more difficult that I first thought, but we don't know until we try..!

I'm next going to traul through the different free programs out there, read up on some reviews, and see whats best for me!

EDIT: Wow this is very tricky. It seems everything I can get hold of with only work with 3D models, rather than video. There might be a way I can get it all working, but its not looking good. Iv'e downloaded a 14 day free trial of an app called Augment, which lets me simply create points of interest for things to happen in, but again, only with 3D models.

Planet Facts.

I've been trawling the internet for facts about the planets and the solar system, and ive stumbled across this site: http://space-facts.com/planets/

Seems to be pretty good and all the information is cohesive. Ill have to fact check it all before using it, but its a good start

Plan of action!

THE PLAN! I'm going to make 3 different designs, and make them so that when either the AR or QR code is scanned, animation shall commence, giving more information on the specific letter..!

Because I want them to look into one another, to give the child much more of an incentive to collect them, I'll stick to A, B and C. I'm going to do some research into what they could be, then put up some concept design and animatics.

Ideas

So I've had an idea. I've done some research, and what BEAR currently has is a well designed information sheet that pops off the back of the box so that kids can collect. I need a way to make that more exciting for kids, so that there is more of an insensitive to collect, and buy the cereal. So I intend to either use a RF codes, or AR scanners to allow the user to use their phone or tablet, to make the cereal box back come to life! I could add a things that if you get them all and scan them all you get a secret cartoon? Its all brain storming at the moment. I need to go out and buy a box to see what fun I can have with it.

The Brief

OKAY! Not a great selection this year with the YCN student award briefs, so I've decided to go with the most fun sounding of the lot.. BEAR! They want a new look of their alphabet series on the back of cereal boxes.

"In the Project Pack you'll find some examples of our current eight pack backs, along with the their dimensions. We'd like you to produce new back of pack designs in line with the information above. You can produce as many designs as you see fit to demonstrate your thinking."

  • It’d be really bold, brave, gruff, simple and fun.
  • It would be iconic.
  • It would really make the alphabet letter the hero on pack.
  • It would be really educational or crafty in a non-scholarly way and fun for kids, helping them to learn without realising that they were doing so.
  • It won’t talk down to kids and ideally would thrill and entertain adults too.
  • It would be enjoyed more for more than one breakfast sitting- kids spend a lot of time reading the back of boxes over the course of a week, how can we keep them entertained?
  • It would mark us out as being a brand that really loves its consumers.
